Wildlife
The Asian Elephant in Corbett
Wild elephants are one of Corbett's most reliable and most thrilling sights, and one of the situations where following the guide matters most.
Herds and tuskers
Elephants live in family herds led by a matriarch; adult males may roam alone. Adult males may carry large tusks, while females of the Asian species are often tuskless.
Where you may see them
Elephants are often mentioned around the Dhikala grasslands and the Ramganga, and in the Durgadevi area, as our earlier pages note. Movements are seasonal and unpredictable.
Safety
Never stand up in a vehicle near elephants, never approach on foot and follow your driver's decision to reverse or leave.
